It’s time for storytime! Yes, I officially have to do my very first storytime next week as part of my Librarian 1 training checklist. I think I have been dreading this since I started the MLIS program years ago, knowing that this was in my future! I am an Adult Services Librarian, after all; I teach computer classes; give computer device 1 on 1’s to people; create eReader workshops etc. I don’t sing nursery rhymes! But I’m going to… next week! I’ve decided to change my attitude about it. I watched a storytime today and it’s not as intimidating as I first thought, despite working at one of the largest branches in our system- sometimes there’s 70 attendees to a storytime! I’ll try to have fun with it and think of it as a challenging, learning experience, as it’ll be way, way out of my comfort zone.<\/p>\n

Here’s my plan for a preschool Fishy Storytime.<\/p>\n

Opening Rhyme: Up, Down, Turn, Around
\nIntroduction
\nBook: The Pout-Pout Fish<\/a>\"\"
\nFlannel: Five Little Fish swimming by the shore…
\nBook: Fidgety Fish<\/a>\"\"
\nAction Rhyme with octopus puppet: Octopus, octopus, turn around. Octopus, octopus, touch the ground…
\nBook: Hooray for Fish!<\/a>\"\"
\nFlannel: Modified “Brown Bear:” Red fish, red fish, what do you see…
\nSong with huge fish puppet: The waves in the sea go up and down… The shark in the sea goes snap, snap, snap… (tune of Wheel on the Bus)
\nBook: Fish, Swish! Splash, Dash!: Counting Round and Round<\/a>\"\"
\nClosing Rhyme: “I think it’s time we have to go, wave you elbows, wave your toes…”
\nThen everyone gets a fish sticker when they leave!<\/p>\n\n
