Yes, I officially have to do my very first storytime next week as part of my Librarian 1 training checklist. I think I have been dreading this since I started the MLIS program years ago, knowing that this was in my future! I am an Adult Services Librarian, after all; I teach computer classes; give computer device 1 on 1’s to people; create eReader workshops etc. I don’t sing nursery rhymes! But I’m going to… next week! I’ve decided to change my attitude about it. I watched a storytime today and it’s not as intimidating as I first thought, despite working at one of the largest branches in our system- sometimes there’s 70 attendees to a storytime! I’ll try to have fun with it and think of it as a challenging, learning experience, as it’ll be way, way out of my comfort zone.

Here’s my plan for a preschool Fishy Storytime.

Opening Rhyme: Up, Down, Turn, Around
Introduction
Book: The Pout-Pout Fish
Flannel: Five Little Fish swimming by the shore…
Book: Fidgety Fish
Action Rhyme with octopus puppet: Octopus, octopus, turn around.
